The SEC-mandated transition from T+2 to T+1 settlement for US securities on May 28 marked the culmination of a project that market participants had been working on since February 2023. With Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Argentina also moving to trade date +1 settlement on the same date, European regulators and technical groups are now looking to agree the industry timetables and technical requirements that will allow markets on this side of the Atlantic to follow suit, with the UK targeting no later than the end of 2027 for domestic implementation.
