In line with ongoing efforts to establish a single market for capital benefitting consumers, investors, and companies across the EU member states via the Capital Markets Union (CMU), the European Commission (EC) proposed the Retail Investment Strategy (RIS).
The Council of the EU reached an agreement on the proposal in June 2024. The final directive is expected before the end of 2024 or in early 2025.
The RIS seeks to ensure more transparent, efficient, and investor-friendly retail investment market within the EU by focusing on investor protection, market transparency, cross-border investment, financial literacy, innovation, and regulatory harmonization.
